Get Started in the Gym with Axiom

No matter who inspires you to begin your fitness journey, whether it is a friend or coworker or a fitness professional, they all started the same way. Everyone, regardless of where they are at with their proficiency with fitness has taken the leap of faith and began spending time in the gym. The first step towards real motivation comes from an understanding that getting in shape and changing your habits will be difficult and will take time. If it didn’t, everyone would look like their favorite fitness models. But half of the fun (if not more!) is the journey; experiencing the rewarding nature of fitness first hand.

Regardless of your goals, be it weight loss or to increase strength, it can be difficult to get started if you are new to the fitness lifestyle. Here are some tips for those of you who are wondering how to get started:

Explore personal training options to help set a routine and personalize your gym schedule to fit your goals.
Build a routine and schedule and stick with it. Whether you want to be in the gym 3 days a week, 4 or even more, it is vital that you implement a schedule. Building a habit takes 21 days – it only gets easier to stick with your routine from there!
Make changes to your diet and ensure you are receiving the proper nutrition. If you are looking to pack on muscle, make sure that you are eating enough calories to properly build new muscle. If you are looking to lose weight, make sure you have a proper diet in place that aligns with your workout schedule so you are taking in fewer calories than you are burning each day.
Experiment with different group classes to find activities that you enjoy.
Keep a journal to track your workouts – count reps, sets and weight. This will help keep you accountable and track growth of how you progressed over time.
Don’t neglect sleep! This is the time when your body repairs itself, and without proper sleep you will be limiting your progress.
